Privacy Policy

Built for reading public content, not for collecting personal context.

Last updated: March 11, 2026

Overview

HackNe for Hacker News is a reader app for publicly available Hacker News content. The app is built to keep the reading experience simple and does not require an account to browse stories, comments, or profiles.

HackNe does not ask you to create an account and does not store your personal content inside the app.

Data the app accesses

HackNe loads public data from the official Hacker News API, including stories, comments, and user profiles. When you open an article, the app loads the linked publisher page in an in-app web view.

  • Hacker News data: public stories, comments, usernames, timestamps, and scores.
  • Linked webpages: destination articles load directly from the publisher's website.
  • Preview metadata: the app may inspect public page metadata such as preview images to improve story cards.

Third-party content

HackNe shows third-party content from Hacker News and linked publisher websites. Those sources remain governed by their own terms and privacy policies.

Website analytics

The HackNe website uses Firebase Analytics to understand aggregate website usage. This helps measure visits and improve the website experience.

Data storage

The app uses lightweight local caching to improve loading performance. This cache stays on your device and is not used to create a user account or profile.

Children's privacy

HackNe is not directed to children under 13. If you believe personal information has been provided improperly, please use the support page.

Changes to this policy

This privacy policy may be updated as the app and website evolve. Material updates will be reflected on this page with a revised date.
